Mark was born in the North east of England in a small village called Teesville, just outside of Middlesbrough.From the age of seven he realised that he liked sport when he was chosen from a class of about thirty pupils to run in the 100 yards sprint.Between the ages of twelve and fourteen he represented his senior school at county level, competing in the 100 and 220 yards sprint and the relay. He was also a member of the school basketball team and at the age of fourteen was captain of the Rugbt team.For two years after leaving school (at the age of fifteen) he took up boxing, Judo, and weight training.On the completion of his apprenticeship as an electrician, (then twenty one) Mark made an unusual move and entered the world of show business as a band singer. He had always been interested in music, and during his teens had been a member of a couple of pop bands The Nightriders, The Escorts, and The Bill Sowerby orchestra, he also played the guitar and piano. This career was to take him all over the world, and with the release of two singles with E.M.I/Mother records,(909) (Venus) he appearing on fourteen major television shows. Mark has also sang on numerous radio broadcasts with the BBC Northern Radio Orchestra for BBC Radio Two.Over the intervening years Mark would keep fit with regular jogging, swimming, and the occasional game of golf. He also took up martial arts (Kickboxing)Devastating news came in 1994, when he was informed that he had two tumours in his throat. Further tests confirmed that it was cancer, and he had to under go surgery and a great deal of radiotherapy treatment to remove the toumours. The specialist informed him that it was possibly caused through working in smokey atmospheres, and he had never smoked. (The Roy Castle Syndrome) He also mentioned that he may never sing again because of the damage caused by the radiotherapy.As well as the usual side effects of the radiotherapy i.e. loss of saliva, taste etc he lost a considerable amount of muscle in his left shoulder, and on completion of the treatment he started to re-build the muscle with weight training. After a period of time he joined a local health centre and started circuit training. This was the start of his interest in exercising to music as he could see the benefits it was bringing not only to him but to other participants.In 1999/2000 Mark acquired an "Exercise To Music" teaching qualification NVQ level 2 in theory and practice, and In April 2002 he completed the London Marathon, raising £2,782 for cancer research.(Association For International Cancer research)Up until 2009 Mark was singing at least two/three nights per week, running a small entertainment's agency in Warrington Cheshire, and teaching“Exercise to Music” classes, specialising in fitness for the over fifties.In 2010 after being in the entertainment business for over 50 years Mark thought it was time to hang up his vocal chords, retire and move to France, however within a short period of time he was back singing and playing guitar with a French Band called "Mijo". Aynsley Hay YouTube After a relatively dry period Mark started writing again in 2014 and released two original singles. In 2021 Mark teamed up with fellow songwriter and singer Chris Morris (ex Paper Lace guitarist and singer) together they have written a number of new songs and are presently applying their individualism to each other’s back catalogue of original compositions. One of their songs called "MyBattle Scars" is an emotional and very poignant song dealing with homelessness portrayed through the testimony of an ex-soldier. To date "My Battle Scars" has reached a total of 28 thousand streams on Spotify alone.
